Holocene also provides direct push probe drilling to service the environmental industry.  We provide a variety of water and soil sampling services to consulting firms, real estate developers and owners.  The direct push probe drilling methods we use are designed to collect undisturbed soil and water samples at the direction of environmental engineers, hydrogeologists, and geologists. 

These professionals typically engage in the performance of environmental assessments, contaminant investigations, and remediation of real property.  Locations include retail gas stations, former dry cleaning sites, current and former industrial sites – refineries, lumber, pulp, steel, and airport fueling facilities.

  • Technically accurate tooling for soil, soil gas and groundwater sampling offers greater variety and flexibility
  • Undisturbed soil cores allow for accurate vertical soil profiles used to generate three-dimensional site models
  • Direct push methods provide an accurate means to collect depth-discrete groundwater samples that assist in the identification and location contaminated layers
  • Soil samples are recovered in plastic liners so volatile organics are not exposed to the atmosphere resulting in more accurate laboratory test data
  • Minimized investigation-derived waste (IDW) during the sampling process resulting in decreased disposal costs
  • Ideal for low clearance, limited access and small diameter drilling footprints associated with tight spaces, under canopies, inside buildings, and limiting traffic disruption during the investigation
  • Typical sample penetration rates from 5 to 10 feet per minute provide for a faster sampling rate than conventional drilling
  • Smaller diameter borings lessen surface and subsurface disturbance
  • Geotechnical testing information can be obtained concurrently for use in remediation and injection or extraction well activities
  • Water and drilling muds are not required for direct push borings, resulting in cleaner samples

  • Capable of injecting ORC, Regenox and many other solutions using air diaphragm pumps or high pressure hydraulic pumps.
Concrete Coring
  • 4 1/2-inch hole using a roto-hammer and carbide concrete core bit.
